Seasonal Maintenance

When you own a home, it is important to do seasonal maintenance to retain its value. Here is a general overview, by season, of maintenance to consider:

Fall
  • Seal cracks and gaps in windows and doors with caulk or weather stripping.
  • Touch up exterior siding and trim with paint.
  • Inspect roofing for missing, loose or damaged shingles and leaks.
  • Wash windows and siding.
  • Remove leaves and debris from eaves.
  • Rake and prepare lawn for winter.
  • Drain and store hoses for winter.
  • Check water heater for leaks.
  • Tune up home appliances and service furnace and ductwork.
  • Replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Spring
  • Inspect roofing for missing or damaged shingles and leaks.
  • Check air-conditioner filter and have unit serviced.
  • Drain or flush water heater.
  • Wash windows and door screens.
  • Vacuum lint from dryer vent.

Winter

  • Check garage door and all door hinges, oil if needed.

  • Check around kitchen and bathroom cabinets for leaks.
  • Replace any lightbulbs, change fixtures if needed.
  • Prune trees and shrubs.
